These are the real deal! An authentic wood slice handmade relief print. This is a beautiful homage that documents the life and history of an Appalachian Mountain Locus tree.
HOW ITS DONE-
This is not a poster or a copy of a print. No two are ever alike.
These relief prints are made with sustainably harvested carefully chosen fallen Appalachian Mountains trees. In this case, a Locus tree. Each tree is cut into slices, sanded flat, and seasoned. After the block is fully dry, the top charred using the ancient technique of Shou Sugi Ban to begin the process of enhancing the grain. Charred soft wood is left behind and carefully removed using a wire brush revealing the remaining hardwood grain. Once cleaned and sealed, an oil-based ink is applied to the block and many moons later the relief printing can begin.
The process of printing tends to be an ethereal and meditative moment that connects with the past, present, and future. Each print is a combination of sight, touch, feel and luck that leaves you with an organic poem evoking primitive emotions.
These prints reveal the essence of a story of life. Each ring illuminating a stoic life from start to finish. Quite reminders of a tales never heard pressed between the rings telling its story word for word. These prints are a gentle reminder that we are part of a symbiotic relationship that makes us all one.
